SMC presses

SMC presses

SMC (Sheet Molding Compound) presses are specialized hydraulic systems designed to process fiber-reinforced composite materials under high pressure and temperature. Unlike standard hydraulic presses, these machines are engineered to manage the viscosity change of the thermoset resin during the curing cycle. The process involves precise parallelism control to ensure uniform wall thickness across complex geometries and integrated heating systems (oil or electric) to maintain constant mold temperatures, typically between 130°C and 160°C. High-performance SMC presses utilize multi-stage pressure profiles—starting with a fast approach, followed by a controlled pressing speed to allow air escape, and a final high-pressure dwell time for polymerization. This technical precision results in high-strength, lightweight components with exceptional dimensional stability and Class A surface finishes, making them indispensable for structural automotive parts and heavy-duty industrial housings.
